Development

This is an exciting time for our neighbourhood as over the past decade it has undergone tremendous change  and there is still more, much more, to come.

In the next 5 - 10 years there will be a new Etobicoke Civic Centre, a multitude of new shops and restaurants as well as a massive influx of new residents living primarily in apartment and condo buildings.

By our calculation to date there are over 11,500 new units planned or proposed for our community.

The IRRA is not categorically  opposed to these changes or the rapid development.

What we ARE striving to do is to make sure that any new development enhances rather than detracts from the existing neighbourhood.

We are fighting to try and make sure that new developments maintain, or improve traffic safety, the necessary infrastructure is in place, do not loom over neighbours.

Our goal is to help create a vibrant community where people of all ages can live, work and play.

There also a variety of City of Toronto guidelines with respect to development across the city.

If there is a development that you have a particular opinion or concern about we encourage you to not only support the IRRA in its efforts toward 'smart development' but also to contact your local political representatives [click HERE for their information] as well as attend community meetings and consultations.
