What We Do

Our Mandate

Constituted in 1971, the mandates of the IRRA are:

  • To promote and protect the interests, rights, privileges and responsibilities of residents and property owners
  • To promote measures to improve the area, add to its attractiveness and preserve its residential character
  • To promote legislative measures as may seem wise for the area
  • To promote good government of the municipality

Advocacy and Community Initiatives

  • Work with residents and local Councillors to advocate at Committee of Adjustment regarding applications that impact the neighbourhood as a whole
  • Address local traffic issues
  • Act as liaison with Community Policing
  • Participate in broader civic issues
  • Neighbourhood Watch
  • Organize community meetings to address issues of local and city wide concern

Our Vision

Change is coming to the neighbourhood known as Islington Village and Six Points in the form of exciting new amenities, developments and by extension many new neighbours!

The IRRA embraces these changes as an opportunity to make the neighbourhood even more vibrant and to build upon its long history of being a wonderful place to live, work and play.

As we navigate through the various new developments being proposed there are a few elements that are crucial points of consideration.

Specifically:

  • A varied and accessible Main Street retail environment with a mix of different types of shopping experiences, pubs, cafes as well as everyday essentials.

  • Creating and preserving dynamic green spaces which provide an oasis from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

  • Building and development designs which enhance, improve, and fit within the context of the existing community.

  • Facilitating a safe and friendly environment where individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy, thrive and be proud to call home.

  • An acknowledgement and celebration of the community’s long and varied history from the indigenous peoples to early settlers to current day new Canadians.

Map of Our Boundaries

The IRRA boundary of focus is :

  • south by Bloor St. W
  • east by Islington Ave.
  • north by Rathburn Rd
  • west by the hydro line west of Kipling Ave.

However, we realize that our community is just a part of a much larger whole and therefore often broaden our scope to include activities in the neighbourhoods surrounding us.
